I read with interest the latest numbers from GM and Ford. The term of burning money was used when describing just how much was used in retooling for newer fuel efficient cars. Now the two companies are in Washington, again with their hands out looking for another "taxpayer" gift. Asking the same taxpayer, who can't afford to purchase one of these new cars or can't get a loan from banks who are still hoarding (700 billion bailout) of taxpayer money.

The Holiday Season is at our doorstep and many of us are facing tough economic times. Here's a tough one: Would you – should you – lend money to a family member or friend in need? Parents are often asked to be "bankers" for a loan to a family member who may need some bucks to get through a period of unemployment, or maybe to make a down payment on a home. Whatever your reaction to such a request for financial assistance DON'T LET YOUR HEART OVERRULE BASIC GOOD SENSE. Get some necessary protection. We're not saying don't lend the money if you can, but we are saying consider what you are doing before you make the final decision. We've all lost count of how many family loans have gone very bad!

With Election Day exactly one week ago, the Nation can sit back and take a break, and what a ride it was. There is one person who can't do that and who hasn't, President elect Obama. He now faces challenges that no other President has had to face. A sinking economy not only in this country but other countries around the world, many who are blaming the US for their problems. The biggest problem he is facing is a Nation that is expecting him to solve all these problems, and quickly.

I know, the latest survey about "last pleasures to give up in a recession" overwhelmingly claims tobacco, alcohol and going to the movies. But think about it: Take your last puff. Depending on the wallop packed by the “sin taxes” where you live, you could save more than $2,000 a year if you go from being a pack-a-day smoker to a non-smoker. You’ll also qualify for significantly cheaper life and medical-insurance rates after you quit. And imagine, you don't have to write it once again on your list of failed New Year's Resolutions.
If you want to find hundreds of great saving tips and ideas, go to www.paragoexports.com and check out the series of e-books with tips collected from ideas from every corner of the globe.

At a time when the average consumer on the street is looking for a bit of good news, the Fed offered a little this past week. Rates are now at 6.20 percent for the week ending November 6th.; down from 6.46 percent last week. The reason for this reduction is due to the fact that there were new indications of a pullback in consumer spending and a weaker job market.

If you are one of the lucky ones who can still consider retirement then you may want to consider downsizing a few things in your life that will make those golden years a little easier to handle. Let's face the cold hard facts, this is a country that just plain enjoys everything big, and it seems the bigger the better. With the state of the economy today these big items will continue to cost more and more in the future. Here are a few tips that will help you with retirement. Remember when retiring it is all about "cash flow". Consider downsizing your home. That's right, your home, the palace, the four thousand plus square feet, three story, two plus air conditioning units and three car garage, all sitting on one plus acres of land. Now if you are like most retirees it is just the two of you, why are you still taking care of a large home. By downsizing you can reduce your monthly obligation in some cases by as much as forty percent. |

The Power of the Internet: Be Small Act Large |

Be Small Act Large: Use Marketing to Position Yourself as a Big Company One great thing about the Web is the way it levels the playing field between big and small companies. A small local operation can have a Web presence as robust and impressive as a multi-national company, allowing it to appear much larger than it actually is. Of course, size doesn’t always matter. Small companies can promote the fact that every customer gets royal treatment and personal service. What does matter is finding your market niche, knowing what’s important to your customers and fulfilling those customer needs. But sometimes, looking bigger than you are can open doors that might otherwise be shut. For those times when you need to look big, here’s how to use marketing to give you the look you need. |

November 4th, 2008 is now behind us. The constant flood of campaign advertising, phone calls, campaign workers canvassing neighborhoods seeking out votes for their candidate, many thought it would never end. Barack Obama, US President elect who will become our 44th. President, has many challenges ahead of him. During the campaign there were many, many promises made, by both candidates, promises that many are wondering how they will be kept. With a slumping economy and financial markets dwindling and eroding retirement and savings, many are concerned what can be done by a new President to get things back on track. |

The Rats Will Disappear………! |

I don’t believe there is anyone who likes to admit, or will admit that they probably have rats (mice) in their house, attic, garage, barn or out building. I have read that these little creatures live everywhere, and most of us have them in our homes. I was recently plagued with a rat problem in my Real Estate office. They were driving us crazy, every morning we would see the signs of rats. There is a one bedroom apartment upstairs and my tenant was obviously also having a problem. We couldn’t figure it out, where were they coming from, and why?
We would set traps and every day we would catch anywhere from one to three, sometimes up to four, this was no joking matter any longer. We used all the different types of rat poisons on the market, and they work. The problem with the rat baits is that once they eat it they become very sick and die, usually they will end up in the wall somewhere to die. |

Now you have the home looking good but you need to do a little more in the landscaping department, and on a tight budget. Consider concrete stamping and color mix, a good alternative to using real stone. There are many stamps you can purchase today for concrete, even dyes that you can add to the concrete while it is in the mixing stage for that through and through color. Once you form up where the concrete is going and have chosen your stamp, you simply mix and pour. Once the concrete has began to set, you can start your stamping.

Have you ever thought about what really gets into your house, roaches, ants, mice, rats, squirrels and numerous other little “creatures”, all having a negative effect on our health and wellbeing? So what are we to do when it comes to keeping them out or controlling them? First let’s consider how they are getting into the home. We must also realize that where pests can get in is where heat can get out, this can be an expensive situation. Did you know roaches can trigger asthma? Mice can gnaw through electrical wires and insulation, so can rats. They also can, and love to get into your pantry, Yeech. You see just as you want to be inside where it is nice and warm so do the pesky critters. Mice can actually squeeze through a space as small as a nickel. The National Pest Management Association (NPMA) has some expert tips for you in pest proofing your home; |
