Passing the Holiday Torch PDF Print E-mail

The seniors in my life are always the hardest ones to shop for on my Christmas list.  They already have anything they need or want and most in my family are constantly downsizing and do not want more “stuff”.  What they do want is time.  More quality time to spend with their family and friends is really what they desire for the holidays.
My mother-in-law was so appreciative the year I took over having Thanksgiving at our home.  The year I volunteered to handle Christmas Eve, too?  Well, she just about came to tears.  The holidays and entertaining are often a struggle for those who don’t have the strength, energy or the means to set out their usual spread that would make Martha Stewart take notes.  My mother-in-law took care of every tiny detail, but there came a time that it was just too much for her to handle.

They say it takes a village to raise a child. Well, it also takes a village--at best a supportive community, and at the least a few very good friends--to keep a person sane and happy. All of us need companionship, which is exactly why teenagers are texting their friends in the middle of dinner (TMI, BFF, OMG ...), and why people who didn't own a personal computer last year now have profiles on Facebook, My Space, and other social-networking sites.

This story isn't directly about having a homebased business, but it is about three simple things that have made the w-o-r-k of a homebased Internet marketing business a little more pleasant and effective for me.   Oh yeah,  believe it or not w-o-r-k!!!!!
In spite of all the guru BS, there's quite a bit of work involved in Internet marketing and not all of it can be "out-sourced," while you lay your lazy butt on the sandy shores of some exotic destination.
Sometimes we're so busy getting things done, we don't invest time into thinking about how we can work more comfortably.
Here are three things that I apply that have made working on my homebased business a lot more pleasant for me.

Fall is the season for regaining your balance, however, your sleep patterns may be thrown by the clock change on Sunday. One in five of us sleeps poorly, grabbing a few hours each night but waking early, unrefreshed, irritable and tired before the day even begins. Experts have coined a term to describe this unsatisfactory state -- "junk sleep".
Like junk food, junk sleep mimics the real thing but doesn't supply long-lasting sustenance.

Daily I got hundreds of emails from Marketing gurus, investment and stockmarket advisers, news articles from around the world and offers from dozens of companies to try their products. It's my way to stay in the loop. Like many of you I quickly scan the subject line and the sender and click delete. Except for the nes that catch my eye. Because that's what it is all about. Catching someone's attention. The famous A in AIDA. Yesterday I caught this story that made me stop and think. I hope it does the same for you.

I re-visited an Important Lesson Yesterday PDF Print E-mail

It was a gorgeous fall day on our North Florida barrier island yesterday and once again I was in my office  at the computer working my eBay listings. My husband, a convicted work-a-holic as well was in his home office working on one of our many websites. At about 2: 30 in the afternoon he called upstairs to invite me for a walk on the beach (less than a block from the cottage). With a sigh I looked at all the listings I still needed to put up on eBay, but gave in and got ready for what turned out to be a revelation.
Mid seventies, beautiful sun, soft sand, shells and shark teeth galore and friendly people abound. What a glorious moment in life when everything around us is spelling disaster.

I do not know about you, but even in today's economy, I am not ready to go without a few niceties of life, as long as there are ways to still enjoy them without breaking the bank. One of those being a lovely glass (bottle) of wine while relaxing on the porch of my beach cottage.
Check out some of the best value wines, under the $10 mark, on the current wine market. These are budget friendly wines that have good consumer accessibility at very welcoming price points. They are high on flavor and drinkability and low on wallet strain, giving lots of bang for your wine buck!
Number 11? Oh just try it, you will be utterly surprised!

I am not a good sleeper and never have been.  While it is true that some people require more sleep than others, it is true that people do require more sleep than I am able to achieve on a regular basis.  As a matter of fact, my lack of sleep was starting to cause adverse reactions to my own well being and I felt a little bit like this Match Box 20 song,

Market Notes

November 20, 2008

US stocks sank and the Indexes slid to 5 year lows as banks and carmakers plunged. The fear is from the bizarre state of our financial system and not knowing what Washington is doing. Traders are saying “A hideous day..it’s hard to put a basement on this thing.”
The S&P  plunged over 6% losing 55.8 points, breaking support, closing at 815. It’s down 45% this year and poised for it’s worst year since 1931.  The Dow closed down 428 points at 7997.00 also under support.  The NASDAQ Composite dumped to1386.42 after losing 96.85 points. It would help a lot if Washington would stop the soap opera and act in a proper economic manner. Be careful
